The Hippodrome Casino in London stands in the vibrant entertainment hub of Leicester Square. With its history dating back to 1900, it has evolved into a modern marvel, offering a thrilling array of gaming options, live performances, and dining experiences. Among its crown jewels is the Heliot Steak House, a culinary haven nestled within the casino’s opulent centre. Renowned for its impeccable service and hedonistic experiences, Heliot Steak House offers patrons with a varied menu featuring prime cuts of steak, fresh seafood, and gourmet sides. The restaurant’s elegant ambience, coupled with panoramic views of the gaming floor, creates an unforgettable dining experience that embodies the essence of indulgence and sophistication amidst the lively energy of London’s premier entertainment destination.
As we waited for our meal, we decided to take a seat at the bar and indulge in some expertly crafted cocktails by none other than the master mixologist Georgi. We were recommended to try the Negroni or the Chilli Margarita, both of which were highly recommended by the bartender. The Negroni was a perfect balance of gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari, while the chilli margarita had just the right amount of spice to give it a unique kick. We highly recommend trying out these drinks for yourself as they were truly a highlight of our experience, as was Georgi.
For starters, I thoroughly enjoyed the goat’s cheese lollipops served with lemon curd sauce. The dish was playfully presented, and each bite was a mouth-watering explosion of flavor that left me salivating. The tartness of the goat’s cheese paired perfectly with the sweet and sour taste of the lemon, creating a truly delightful start to our meal. The Loch Duart salmon sashimi with Asian dressing and ginger was also really enjoyable.
But the steak is what Heliot Steak House is really all about (the clue is in the name). When I first looked at the prices for this glitzy venue I honestly didn’t expect much at the table. Why? Because it’s so unbelievably affordable. The menus most expensive steak is priced at only £50 (not taking into account the large sharing Tomahawk) and is easily one of the best pieces of steak you’ll come across in London. It rivals some of the top steakhouses, yet at only a fraction of the price. Succulent, juicy, full of deep rich flavours, the seasoning was spot on and my requested medium-rare Argentinian sirloin (priced £31) was absolutely beautiful. With so many covers potentially to cook for here, I’m amazed at how well they cooked it. We also opted for a side of salad which I felt needed room for improvement, but the sauce is well worth adding to dip your steak in. Particularly the creamy bearnaise.
The desserts were a pleasant surprise. I don’t know who the pastry chef is, but they definitely know what they’re doing in the kitchen. Another highlight of our meal was the beautifully presented red velvet cake with mascarpone and winter berries. The cake was oh-so moist, the flavors were heavenly, and the mascarpone added a creamy twist. Overall, it was one of the best red velvet cakes I’ve ever had.
Heliot Steak House was in all honestly nothing like I’d expected it to be. Being a restaurant inside a casino I was still slightly sceptical as to what to expect, yet they managed to impress and intrigue me with every dish. Would I return? Yes. Would I eat everything? Yes. Follow my sound menu choice and you’ll have one of the best steak experiences in London. I can’t comment on other main courses here but in all honesty, I wouldn’t bother. It’s called Heliot “Steak House” for a reason and they do it so well.
