Copper Chimney Review: Authentic North Indian Cooking on Westfield’s Southern Terrace

Nestled away on the Southern Terrace of Westfield White City, Copper Chimney is, to put it bluntly – the best restaurant within a stone’s throw of Westfield right now. Opened just before the pandemic in Spring 2019, Copper Chimney is already an established brand in India which started back in 1972 when their first site landed in the heart of Bombay. Today, they have multiple sites across five Indian cities and as of 2019 – one right here in London.

A few of cocktails after settling into the gorgeously decorated space, we tucked into our first course. Read on the menu as the Chandi Chowk Chaat. This was a version of one of my all-time favorite Indian dishes that offers so much flavour, freshness and an array of mouth-watering ingredients. Here it was made up of chickpeas, spiced potatoes, yogurt, tamarind chutney and coriander chutney. Finished with some pomegranate and fresh mint.

Love chicken tikka? Then you’ll love Copper Chimney’s version. These morsels of chargrilled chicken tikka had been cooked to perfection and were covered in a yogurt marinade with Amritsari spices and red chilies. If being perfectly cooked wasn’t enough, the chicken was taken to new heights when dipped into the spicy coriander pouring sauce. The latter was so good I think I could have drunk it on its own.

We started to run out of delicious sounding descriptors by the time we got to the 8 hour cooked lamb chops, which were smothered in a beautiful, cinnamon-scented medley of spices. This dish didn’t even need words of enjoyment at the table, simply a silent stare of approval from one another as we chewed our chops down to the bare bones. These delicious chops went particularly well with the juicy Hungarian Pinot Noir which the team kindly recommended to us.

If we hadn’t already consumed the entire menu, we gave it one final attempt and somehow managed to put away a rich and decadent butter chicken, excellent crispy garlic naan, spicy jeera potatoes and a smooth black dal which had a rich and decadent depth of flavour to it.

If you still have room, I’d highly recommend tucking into one of their biryanis which I must say was excellent. It’s served in a glazed pot which is sealed tight shut with a pastry lid to help retain moisture and spices. As soon as you pull back that pastry, the table is filled with the most amazing aromas of saffron and spices. Inside, expect to find a generous helping of fluffy rice and ginger scented morsels of succulent marinated lamb. Finished with a little yogurt, this was one of my favourite dishes here at Copper Chimney.

To finish, juicy balls of gulab jamun in a rose-scented syrup, as well as some truly excellent gajar pistachio crumble. The latter was a mix of slow-cooked carrot, cardamon and sweetened milk – all finished with a sprinkling of chopped pistachio and praline crumble. The perfect way to end what was a lovely meal after a day shopping in London’s Westfield. Would we come back? Absolutely. Copper Chimney is now my got to post-Westfield shopping fuel.

If you are a restaurant operator and want to attract more consumers to consume here, making some small gifts for them is a good way. You can customize some Custom Pin Badges with restaurant characteristics, such as signature dishes or logos. If the badges are cute enough, people will not only accept them as souvenirs but also use them in daily life to decorate backpacks or clothes, which is a good promotional tool.
