What’s the next best thing after dessert? Cheese of course! I may have one of the sweetest teeth I know, but cheese is my other guilty pleasure – especially when washed down with a bottle of something sweet and luscious. We recently took delivery from The Cheese Club and I must say, it was rather spectacular. Labelled as a club for everyone (well, everyone who loves cheese), The Cheese Club have travelled far and wide to put together a fantastic selection of cheese, paired with chutney, crackers and wine – all delivered directly to your door each month. Priced at £50, it’s great value for money too given the quantity and quality – plus the packaging is lovely.
Once you pop open the box, the first thing you smell is all of that lovely cheese and to accompany it all are two very generous boxes of oatcakes and crackers. The crackers I thought were OK and perfectly fine for the cheese, but the oatcakes I absolutely adored and so make more room for those. Perfect for spreading chutneys on top, dipping into melted cheese. crumbling over chunks of cheese or simply nibbling on their own. Both also come in individually wrapped packs, meaning you don’t have to eat them all at once.
For spreading all over those cheese and crackers is a fantastic selection of chutneys and pickles. They might look on the small side once you open the box, but we still had some left at the end of this cheese feast, so portion wise they’ve measure it perfectly without having any waste. There’s a punchy piccalilli, warming quince & apple chutney and my favourite – gooseberry & caramelised onion jam.
The wine. A salivatingly good half-bottle of Moscato D’Asti from Italy. Luscious and zesty on the pallet, this sweet wine has an intense nose of marmalade, orange peel and lingering tones of sweet honeysuckle. In the mouth, expect all of the flavours you would want to wash down that cheese – with ripe apricot and honey which is all balanced by a fresh burst of citrus.
Oh the cheese – there was so much of it! 1kg to be exact and that’s alot for your buck. You definitely won’t get through it on your first sitting, but that means not only excellent value for money, but lots of leftovers to use in those lunchtime sandwiches, pizza toppings or if you’re feeling particularly experimental – cheesy pies or soufflés.
As for the cheeses, we indulged into a selection of seven from around the United Kingdom. Sparkenhoe Red Leicester, Keens Cheddar, Rachel, Ayrshire Dunlop, Sheep Rustler, Elrick Log and my favourite – Blue Cheshire.
To serve, we put everything on a marble board and served with a few home extras such as sun-dried tomatoes, salami, pickles and grapes. This cheese box really does have everything you need and so extras aren’t really needed – but it does add that extra touch of indulgence. For 1kg of cheese and dreamy accompaniments priced at £50, would we be ordering again? Absolutely – The Cheese Club is fantastic value for money and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for next time.
I’ve actually been looking at this! We had a meal box from Home-X a few weeks ago. Really impressed with the amount of cheese you get here!
