Going on a road trip is a more grounded and unique way of travelling that more people are getting interested in. By roaming around a specific area by car, be it your local county or somewhere more far-flung, travellers will be able to get a more authentic sense of the location and experience a far more varied trip.
However, despite how much fun and exciting a regular road trip can be, there are always ways to enhance it by adding a theme or objective to these trips. Some people enjoy adding antiquing to their trip, as they roam around an area trying to find the best bargain. In contrast, others enjoy more nature-focused trips, as they dart between national parks and areas of natural beauty.
Although these options can be fun, a favourite for many is the classic foodie road trip. There’s no better way to understand an area than by its cuisine, so taking a trip that encourages you to try as much as you can is a great way to explore a region. Here are some essentials before you head out for your gastronomical adventure.
Create A Route
It may seem fun and freeing to road trip on a whim and go where the wind blows you, but for travellers to get the best out of a road trip, some time needs to be spent planning a route. This is because going about the place with no direction will undoubtedly lead you to miss key attractions or to have to turn back on yourself to go somewhere you wanted to go.
Creating a route before you set off will give you a great plan to follow. It’s always good to jot a route on a physical map, with a good technique being to circle the key destination spots you want to hit and then working out a way between them all that requires the least amount of driving.
Bring a Good Camera
Due to the nature of a road trip, you’re going to come across some wonderful views and scenery, and you’re going to want to snap those so that you can remember them forever. A camera will also be useful for taking good shots of all the delicious food you will be sampling on your travels.
These photos can then be used for blog posts, where you can record your adventure online for others to be inspired by, or you can gather them all in lovely photo books to share with your family and friends.
Medication
Despite how much fun they can be, road trips can be grueling and can begin to wear travellers down due to the long days driving, the early starts, and how active you are. That is why it’s a good idea to pack a few basic medications and supplements to help you on your way. Generic headache tablets will be a good choice, as well as painkillers to dispel any lingering aches or pains. It’s also a good idea to bring some vitamins to give you an energy boost.
Specifically for foodie road trips, it’s also a good idea to bring digestive medicine, such as heartburn relief and Imodium, just in case something you eat doesn’t quite agree with you!
