It’s that time again – Christmas! I can’t believe just how quick the last 12 months have passed, but I’m so excited for all things festive and yes, the decorations are up in my flat already! This time of year is all about family, friends, Christmas trees, too much food, colourful street lights and a little too much Champagne. With all that in mind, we recently visited Angler Terrace at the top of the five-star South Place Hotel in the City of London. They do such a beautiful job with the space each year and so I couldn’t refuse the invite when it arrived in my inbox.
This festive season at Angler, they’ve partnered with Champagne Laurent-Perrier on the Michelin-starred heated rooftop terrace which I think you’ll agree is looking beautiful right now. There’s Champagne galore, exclusive cocktails, a real festive spirit in the air and a small plates menu full of comforting winter dishes from Executive Chef Gary Foulkes.
We had a long and beautifully decorated table to share for our evening and under the warmth of the heaters, we started our night with a special winter cocktail created by Laurent-Perrier which will be available until the end of the festive period. Either a choice of The LP Winter, infused with Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée, honey, sloe gin, lemon juice, clove, rosemary & berries. Or my choice, the Rosé Mémoire. A mix of Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé, redcurrant jelly, clementine juice & redcurrants.
During our evening, we were taken on an educational Laurent-Perrier journey to learn all about the brands portfolio. Originally founded in 1812, the House of Laurent-Perrier has been innovating Champagne throughout its history and is now internationally recognised as one of the foremost names in Champagne. With an eight strong portfolio, we got to try both their most popular and also most sought after. The lively and very easy drinking Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Brut. The most sought after Grand Siècle – a blend of vintages which offer so much elegance and complexity. But my firm favourite is still Laurent-Perrier’s Cuvée Rosé, using only Pinot Noir from grand cru villages.
The food menu created by Executive Chef Gary Foulkes for this special pop-up is all designed to share and lucky for us, we got to try it all! First to arrive on the table was chestnut hummus with grilled pitta bread – perfect for grazing on. Whilst the venison Bolognese croquettes offer up everyone’s favourite home comfort (Bolognese of course), but deep-fried and given a seasonal venison twist.
My favourite two dishes from the menu were the truffle arancini with black truffle mayonnaise and the Winter warming Reblochon, Alsace bacon and caramelised onion flatbread. The latter will spend a lifetime on the hips, but I can assure you it’s completely worth it and fits in perfectly with the Winter terrace theme.
I really enjoyed our evening on the Angler Terrace and it was fantastic to hear a little bit more about the history of Laurent-Perrier and compare some of its most popular cuvées. Not to mention tucking into those delicious Michelin starred snacks. The Glistening Christmas pop-up is running from 13th November until the end of the festive period, so my advice is to go now before you miss the chance! For more details click HERE.
NB: My evening was complimentary. All views are as always, my own. My views are not influenced by anyone other than my own palate and slightly poor eyesight.
Delicious food and perfect drinks what more could you want!
