1. Buenos Aires, Argentina

Though I’ll always know Buenos Aires from Madonna’s rendition of Evita, this city truly is the Paris of South America. This bustling metropolis feels very European, but it’s very much a Latin American hotspot. Visit La Boca, Plaza De Mayo, or any of the tiny coffee shops for a true Argentine experience.

2. Porto, Portugal

Most tourists visiting Portugal flock to Lisbon, and while that city is gorgeous, Porto has its own charm. As the second-largest city and one of Europe’s oldest, there’s so much charm and character to find here. Explore the Ribeira District of narrow cobbled streets or explore the wine country outside of the city. While you’re in Porto, don’t miss out on the budding foodie culture.

3. Crete, Greece

Greece has been a hot destination for the last few years, but Crete still remains much less crowded when it comes to tourism. As the largest of the Greek islands, there’s so much to see and do here and it’s a great place to explore by car which can be picked up from one of the many Crete car rental locations. Home to the earliest known civilisation in Europe, you can visit the palace of Knossos, the Samaria Gorge, or just soak up the sun on one of the many Mediterranean beaches.

4. Hamburg, Germany

Mostly destroyed in World War II, Hamburg, Germany is a testament to both the old and new. This bustling city gives Berlin a run for its money, and it’s quickly become a European financial capital. With so much hussle and bussle, there’s a lot to see here from the Reeperbahn nightlife neighborhood to Speicherstadt commercial district.

5. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Finally, cross the Atlantic to Puerto Vallarta, a smaller beach town on the coast of Mexico. Known for its beaches, outdoor activities, and nightlife, this is one of the more laid-back regions in Mexico. If your idea of a good time involves sitting on a hammock on the beach, this is your place. Just order a margarita and you’re good to go.
