Have you ever spent hours scouring the internet, looking over every hotel and nothing ever seems quite perfect enough? For me, that problem seems to be the story of my life – but a new little tool has come along to help make those choices just that little be bit easier! Travel Republic has recently developed its brand new interactive, “The Holiday Generator” was has been designed to help choose where you should next holiday by completing a short quiz and discovering your perfect holiday destination.
I’m not quite sure where I fancy going next, but the sherry scented streets of Jerez in southern Spain always keep me coming back. Berlin, with its famous nightlife I hope to explore later this year and I’m longing to return to Italy. We visited Bologna just a couple of years back and I can still recall eating an amazing bowl of hand-made pasta with a glass of local red wine close to the main square of Piazza Maggiore. With all those memories of my past travel I couldn’t wait to see where this generator wanted to send me and so clicked start and the quiz began!
What type of holiday are you looking for? City Break or Beach Holiday? Now this was a hard one for me to answer and only the first question, but after thinking about it I’m really much more of a City Break type of person. Cobbled streets, al fresco dining under patio heaters in the Winter and exploring those hidden street corners – I can’t get enough of it. Estonia in Tallinn was a place that I really loved and which offered everything a city escape could. The weather wasn’t the greatest on our last visit so I’d love to come back again soon and explore its rich Medieval history.
Who will you be travelling with? That’s an easy one for me. My partner of 12 years. We go everywhere together and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Exploring and creating all those memories across the world.
How do you want to spend your time? Thankfully you can pick two options here, although I could have quite easily chosen them all. Two things that turn a city break into one you’ll always remember is eating and sightseeing. They both go hand in hand and eating in particular for me isn’t just something I love to do, but a hobby. I love to eat local cuisine when travelling, explore all those places the locals frequent and try ingredients you might not find in your home country.
When we visited Venice last year we asked a local in our best Italian for their recommendations and ended up at an amazing cicchetti bar on the canal named Osteria Al Squero, right opposite the ship yards where the famous Gondola boats are made. That local insider knowledge really paid off because so don’t be afraid to ask people when you’re on holiday.
Sorrento! This interactive couldn’t have picked a better destination if it tried! I absolutely adore Italy, but I’ve never been to Sorrento and in fact I’ve never even considered if I’m honest – until now. Exploring the location on the website, I discovered Sorrento isn’t just visually stunning, but the gateway to the Amalfi Coast and situated close to Pompeii for day trips rich in Roman history. Colourful picturesque towns, antique shops, pizzerias and endless wine bars.
This sounds exactly like my kind of holiday destination and so the Holiday Generator really done a great job to get me planning for my next trip. I also discovered that the Lemons in Sorrento are considered to be the best in the world thanks to the mineral-rich volcanic soil created by Mount Vesuvius. Apparently, they’re even better in a glass of limoncello! That sounds delicious.
Deciding where to go on holiday can always be stressful and I thought this was a fantastic, inspirational way to explore somewhere new and it really put the fun back into choosing a holiday. So, what are you waiting for? Find out where the Holiday Generator wants to send you on your next holiday!
