After my many years of always whining about brunch having replaced my weekend lunches, I’ve been officially converted. Now when the weekend comes, all I crave for is a good cocktail, far too much food and if it’s at all possible – sunshine. Thankfully we enjoyed all of that on our recent trip back to Canto Corvino in Spitalfields – one of my favourite brunch locations in London.
One thing you’ll quickly discover about this place is not only does it look stunning inside, but so is the service and the people behind it. Some of the team were more than happy for me to force them out to the front of the building for a few photos and inside its home to the most wonderful bar with huge open windows which bring the streets indoors. Perfect for people watching over a long brunch, especially every Saturday where you can eat from the main brunch menu, or like most of our fellow diners over a free flow Furlan Prosecco brunch (for 1.5 hours) with a 2 course set menu for £35pp.
After ogling at the interiors and snapping photos of the staff, we ordered ourselves a delicious brunch cocktail. Mine was the favourite and the most refreshing too. The Shogun Punch, was a concoction of sake, Lillet blanc, ginger, sage & thyme. It reminded me a lot like a mojito in its freshness, but with a little more alcohol and lots more herbs.
First of the dishes for us to divulge in was our absolute favourite from this brunch menu and something I’d love to come back for again. Pumpkin & smoked mozzarella cannelloni with chestnuts & sage. Absolutely full of flavour, very generous portion wise and it’s exactly the sort of dish I myself want to be eating over a brunch.
A dish I’d eaten here once before and I had such fond memories of meant I had to try it again – for research purposes of course. Succulent lamb ribs, with burnt aubergine & sprinkled with sesame. Just as good as I remembered them before, if not better. Portion wise this was a little smaller so if you have the room, I’d order two. You’ll only be fighting otherwise.
Another must order and which left us finishing on a high was the short rib nduja & raschera cheese burger. Succulent, rich and that nduja which was spread across the bun added a lovely depth and tongue tingling heat. It was also nice to have a side of zucchini frites instead of potato fries, making the dish that little bit lighter and of course, Italian.
We had a really lovely brunch here at Canto Corvino once again and I only wish we hadn’t left it so long to come back. The food is great, the staff are lovely and the space has been very well-designed. If you’re looking for brunch in the city, with the option to go Bottomless with some very fine Prosecco (really its great quality) then look no further and book your table now. I know we will be.
NB: Our meal was complimentary. All views are as always, my own. My views are not influenced by anyone other than my own palate and slightly poor eyesight.
That cannelloni looks and sounds delicious!
