This post really has been a long time coming. When I search for hotels, I almost always have a check list. A fabulous room, a roaring fire (in the Winter), a huge bath tub for flapping about in and of course – a hot tub. I don’t know what it is that fascinates me about them so much but the 38 degree bubbles and Champagne almost always helps. But without further ado – I give you my personal top 5 luxury hotels with outdoor hot tubs in the UK!
1. Mews Suites at Sopwell House, St Albans
One of my favorite hotels in the UK to enjoy some serious hot tub action has to be Sopwell House in St Albans. In the last few years, the hotel opened a new separate wing with some magnificent Mews Suites and they blew me away. Access to the exclusive Mews Suites is through secure gates and is set within some stunning landscaped gardens which were designed and created by RHS Chelsea Flower Show winner Ann-Marie Powell. Set within the mews grounds is a communal bubbly hot tub/jacuzzi for guests to enjoy, where one can request champagne or simply mingle with other guests. It’s stunning.
But better still is hiding within the terrace of the private suites. Fenced and gated off from the mews grounds, some suites have their own Canadian style cedar wood hot tubs. Expect to enjoy bottles of Champagne, strawberries and an array of snacks and some patisserie perfection. This is sheer and utter indulgence at its best. 2. Galgorm Resort & Spa, Ballymena, Northern Ireland
If you fancy getting away from it all then head to Northern Ireland. Amongst the rolling rugged hillside is a hidden gem named Galgorm Resort & Spa. A huge resort like hotel which mixes both old and new into its design. It’s also home to some great restaurants and one of the best spa’s I’ve ever come across. When it comes to hot tubs – they have a wealth of them. Arguably the best part of this hotels Thermal Village is the Canadian style log heated hot tubs. Beautiful to look at and located quite literally on the edge of the gushing River Maine. Everything from the sound of the flowing river to the smokey log fire is memorable.
For a small charge guests can enjoy a one hour experience in this riverside tub, along with half a bottle of Champagne and some home-made chocolates. It’s an experience that shouldn’t be missed! For those who don’t manage this tub experience, the thermal village has a wealth of communal hot tubs to enjoy.
If all that hot tub offering wasn’t already enough, those looking for a little extra luxury can reserve the Signature Suite. The room boasts a huge 122m² of pure luxury and a terrace with its own private hot tub. Tempted? Read my full review of this Northern Ireland destination hotel.
3. The Greenway Hotel & Spa, Cheltenham, Cotswolds
Just a few days of writing this post I was enjoying this fabulous outdoor hot tub at The Greenway Hotel & Spa. The hotel is nestled away in the Costwolds and was incredibly relaxing. The staff were impeccable, my room was immaculate and the spa was exactly what I wanted from it and more. I don’t think I’ve ever spent such a long time in a spa as I did here. Partly to blame is the gorgeous hot tub. Located outside on the spa terrace. The exterior around the tub could do with some maintaining, but everything else we loved. It was hot, bubbly and a little boozy. Enjoying Champagne in it during the evening and fresh orange juice at 8am the next morning.
4. Ockendon Manor Hotel & Spa, Haywards Heath, West Sussex
West Sussex is a place that offers so much beauty. Especially during the Summer. When the wild flora covers the fields and winding roads are lined with so much colour. One place we found ourselves staying at recently was Ockendon Manor Hotel & Spa. Part of the Historic Sussex Hotels group, the hotel offers tons of history but it also has a very modern spa and spa rooms which were recently added. In the spa an indoor swimming pool adjoins to a heated outdoor pool and is incredibly relaxing. Not to mention the outdoor bubbly hot tub. The best time to enjoy it is during the morning while everyone is still sleeping. You’ll have the whole thing to yourself and can enjoy views across the fields.
5. Boringdon Hall Hotel & Spa, Plymouth, South Devon
Devon is an area of the UK I really don’t give enough time or attention too and I don’t know why. I fell in love with it after visiting Boringdon Hall in South Devon and I fell in love with North Devon just recently too. Two very different areas which have a lot to give. Boringdon Hall is a five star, 16th century manor house with so much charm and history. But its biggest selling point for me was its brand new spa, Gaia Spa. Drawing inspiration from Gaia (mother nature) the spa’s interior and exterior have been sympathetically designed to fit in with the surrounding landscape. Inside you’ll find a many areas to relax, but the hydrotherapy pool was my favourite. Complete with a swim-out window which leads to a heated bubbly seating area. Not quite a hot tub – but almost!
If you’re still not convinced and in desperate need of some hot bubbles then book the executive suite like we did. Complete with a large bedroom, living room space and private terrace with hot tub. Having the luxury of your own secluded hot tub here means you can climb into it on a dark evening and watch the stars above while sipping on Champagne. A memory we’ll never forget.
