The Hotel

Jersey, Jersey, Jersey – what have you done to me. I thought I found my go-to holiday destination of Maastricht in the south of the Netherlands, but that may have all changed. I’ll admit, this island is not all perfect – but it’s close. We stayed to the west of the island where the beautiful, transcendent, romantic and luxurious Atlantic Hotel resides. Looking out over the sea from this hotel is life changing, especially on a sunny day. As you walk through the entrance a warm greeting at reception welcomes you and leads to a luxurious lounge area, complimented by the trickling sounds of water from the indoor pond, full of gigantic Carp. The Atlantic Hotel is set in six acres of private grounds adjoining La Moye championship golf course and has been in local family ownership since it opened in 1970, which shows just how much love this hotel has behind it. There’s lots of glamour and luxury here, paired with incredible views which need to really be seen to fully appreciate.

The Grounds/What To Do

We spent two nights at The Atlantic Hotel and I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed an overnight stay just as much as we did here. There is so much to see and do. If you’re looking for bustling nightlife you’re coming to the wrong island, but if you’re after sophistication, good food, delicious wine and island passion then Jersey is for you. Start your stay here and exit through the back of the hotel, heading down a rather treacherous sand dune for the quickest route to the beach. Here you’ll find golden sands for 5km. From start to finish it’s a rather long walk but you’re helped by a supply of beach-side cafes to refuel on wine and fresh seafood pulled in from the days catch. At the end of the walk you’ll arrive in Faulkner Fisheries which serves nothing but simple seafood, in a very rustic setting. Buses are also frequent(ish) for those who don’t fancy walking the whole or part of the journey. En-route back make a pit stop at Jersey Pearl, showcasing exotic pearl jewellery which even gives you the chance to fish your own oysters and snap up a pearl. It’s a little like playing roulette and we were lucky enough to leave with a gorgeous white pearl. Jersey Pearl also serves some great casual food – notably the plate of juicy grilled prawns. Situated on the “Five Mile Road” you’ll also find the Channel Islands Military Museum which is well worth a look around if you want to explore more of this islands history. You’ll see the islands war connections all around the island from its German Occupation during World War Two. If you’re looking for less walking and more relaxing, then head into St Aubin or the main Parish of St Helier. St Aubin is a gorgeous port village which looks out over the Gulf of Saint-Malo and offers some great places to eat, drink and relax. Watersport activities are available all across the island throughout the year as well as Paragliding & Hang Gliding. For a full guide on what to do while staying in Jersey visit www.jersey.com.

The Rooms

We stayed in a standard ocean view room which had a very nautical feel about it, featuring a king size bed with contemporary oak headboard, satin polished chrome and elegant oak furniture. Slide open the full length windows to reveal views over the swimming pool, out across to the ocean. Each room is well equipped with marble en-suite bathrooms, designer Hans Grohe fittings and luxury toiletries by Molton Brown. For your convenience you’ll also find a desk space, lounge area, flat screen TV, robes, slippers and tea/coffee-making facilities. If you have the budget then upgrade to the Atlantic Suite for a truly unforgettable stay.

The Spa/Gym/Health & Fitness

The Atlantic Hotel is home to its very own health club for those in need of relaxing, pampering or working up a sweat. The Palm Club, features a heated indoor swimming pool, bubbly hot spa pool, mini gymnasium and sauna. During the summer months you can enjoy the outdoor swimming pool and cliff side tennis court. If you’d rather venture further afield then explore the islands many walking trails by foot or the neighboring La Moye championship golf course.

The Food & Drink

One of The Atlantic Hotels biggest assets is its restaurant and kitchen team. The hotel is home to the acclaimed one Michelin starred Ocean Restaurant which is looked after by Mark Jordan. During your time here you’ll be supervised by a team of fabulous staff which is led by restaurant manager, Martinho de Sousa who will create an unforgettable evening for you. Be sure to enjoy a pre/post dinner drink in the bar. You can read all about my dining experience at Ocean Restaurant HERE. Breakfast is a rather lavish affair and also served in the main restaurant, with an a la carte offering and continental buffet selection. If you’re looking for an alternative to formal dining then head over to the hotels sister restaurant in Beaumont, Mark Jordan at the Beach. It may be less formal but it’s every bit as accomplished. I wrote all about it in my REVIEW. We also enjoyed some good pub grub just a few minutes walk from the hotel at La Pulente, with a bowl of delicious mussels and beer battered fish & chips – perfect for a casual bite to eat.

The Verdict

The Atlantic Hotel is stunning. While it may look a little unassuming from the outside, it’s full of charm on the inside. Of course what really makes this luxury hotel stand out compared to others on the island is the incredible views they’re lucky enough to enjoy. Even on a dull day it’s eye wateringly beautiful. One night will never been enough to explore all The Atlantic Hotel has to offer, but it’s enough to sample just some of its beauty. With the added bonus of an incredible restaurant serving some of Jersey’s best produce this really isn’t just a hotel, it’s an experience that will always stay in your heart – creating memories for generations to come.
